Word of the Year:
It’s wild to think that a new year is upon us and 2026 is about to begin! The final days of the year are always a time of reflection and resolution and hope for the future. I try not to make too many goals to worry about but something I enjoy is choosing a word of the year. There are many ways to choose your word. You can use tools like word generators, ask a friend or mentor to choose for you or brainstorm to pick a word that resonates with your soul, experiences or hopes for the future.
However you choose your word it should always be done prayerfully. I make sure to ask for God’s guidance first when choosing a word through prayer and meditation, asking the Holy Spirit to select the word for me. It’s interesting how the word can feel mysterious at first but looking back can come to mean so much. That’s how it was for me in 2025.
2025 Word of the Year:
My 2025 word of the year was Here. I can be an overthinker, so I prefer a word to be chosen for me. The past several years I have used Jen Fulwiler‘s word generator! She also has a saint name generator which was programmed using the Litany of Saints. I wasn’t positive what Here could mean but was leaning back into the idea of blogging again after a lengthy hiatus. I was content with my life off-line and still wrote for other sites but missed creating and sharing in the way I once had.
I knew that part of following my dreams was showing up. The time was here for me to be present, and I knew God was calling me to glorify Him. In retrospect I see that I was being reassured. This year was one of the most challenging of my life but simultaneously held miracles and enormous blessings. Jesus never left me or my family’s side, abiding through all of the steep highs and lows.
My Word for 2026:
This very blog you’re reading is a result of the trajectory of 2025. God did so much through my showing up. I didn’t know how much I’d need the community to beg for prayers from the ICU and to inspire hundreds of thousands by sharing God’s wisdom, spoken through the mouth of my very own babe. (I pray for every single person who has viewed, shared, liked and commented on that precious video every single day!)
2025 showed me anything is possible. And after all, I am here and happy to be sharing my 2026 word of the year with you now: Infinite.
Being the word-nerd I am, I looked up the full definition right away.
in•fi•nite /’infǝnǝt/ adjective: limitless or endless in space, extent or size; impossible to measure or calculate. “the infinite mercy of God”
Similar: boundless, unbounded, limitless, without limit
•very great in amount or degree. “he bathed the wound with infinite care”
•mathematics: greater than any assignable quantity or countable number, able to be continued indefinitely.
•grammar: another term for nonfinite
noun: a space or quantity that is infinite.
•God. noun: Infinite, the Infinite
A pretty powerful word, if you ask me! But what struck me most of all was the origin. The Latin root word infinitus. in- which means not and finitus meaning finished.
God is not finished!
An Unexpected Blessing:
We have a lot to look forward to in this shiny new year including many happy milestones to celebrate. Not only will I be graduating in the Spring but many loved ones of mine are entering into the sacraments!
My son William will be receiving his first Holy Communion, my nephew Vincent will make his first confession and Communion on the road to confirmation!
Please pray for them (and for me!).
What I wasn’t expecting was for my Mom to tell me that she had returned to the sacraments herself and started going to Mass at a church close to her home on the Cape! My mom is the reason I am Catholic, bringing us up in the sacraments and Italian Catholic heritage she grew up with. She has always had a strong faith and devotion to the Rosary. While I always pray for my loved ones to live sacramentally, my focus was on those I was actively guiding so when she told me, it was an awesome surprise!
Congratulations Mom, and welcome home!
Best Wishes in the New Year & Beyond:
As a new year dawns, please know that my prayers and sincere well-wishes are with you! It is a joy and a pleasure to share my life with you, a dream come true to tell the stories God weaves into the fabric of my life.
He’s the greatest author and even a simple life following Him is never boring. Faith illuminates and enriches our existence, environment and every interaction with a depth, meaning and a joy that words cannot express.
Words of the year and resolutions sure can be fun and motivating but they’re not what make or break you. Set goals and make plans but keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, keep your perspective eternal and store your treasures up in Heaven.
Happy New Year!
Love, Cait
